Description: This seminar will provide HPC users with detailed guidance on aggressively paring down an existing Apptainer container with the goal of creating a minimal container image that only contains the components (libraries, configuration files, system files, etc.) necessary for the user’s application to run. Starting with an overview of the typical build procedure and methods for limiting the size of the base container, users will be walked through the process of analyzing an application's runtime behavior, generating a detailed manifest of all required dependencies, and, lastly, constructing a new, customized minimal container image for their application.
