Description: Introduction to Regular Expressions (regex) with examples from several tools. Regular expressions are a simple but powerful tool for processing any kind of text, including source code, batch scripts, and simulation inputs and outputs. Various programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl) and tools in the Linux ecosystem (e.g., grep, vim) make use of regular expressions, though each tool may have a slightly different syntax or “flavor” for regular expressions. We will introduce regular expressions using a specific syntax and will then show users how to adapt their regular expressions depending on their tool of choice.
