Description: Athena-RFX is a mesoscale direct numerical simulation CFD code out of Texas A&M University. Recent new code development with Athena-RFX has added the ability to model particle deposition. The first day of this training course will discuss the implementation of several popular particle deposition models within Athena-RFX and how to use them. An application of these particle deposition models to a problem of interest to ARL will also be presented.
The second day of the course will examine the use of the Sandia National Laboratory statistical package known as Dakota to perform uncertainty quantification (UQ) studies with the Cascade Technologies large eddy simulation code CharLES. The course will detail how to couple Dakota with CharLES and run multiple types of UQ studies on DoD HPCMP machines. In addition, a description of the output from each type of UQ study will be discussed with examples shown from Jupyter Notebooks.
